Transforming Recycled Materials Into A New Home
Habitat for Humanity of Montgomery County will host a free demonstration by Dan Phillips "Transforming Recycled Materials Into A New Home" on Tuesday, May 17 at 7 p.m. at their ReStore home improvement resale shop at 9407 S.H. 242 in Conroe, 1 & 1/2 miles east of I-45 near The Woodlands. Renowned as one of the most creative home builders, Dan Phillips, a trained architect from Huntsville has built affordable homes for low-income families and individuals using recycled, donated and salvaged building materials for over 15 years. Phillips has been featured on The Discovery Channel and HGTV. His widely-viewed TED talk sparked international interest in his initiative to demonstrate that building homes with recycled and salvaged materials has a viable place in the home construction business. Some 80% of the materials used in his homes are salvaged from demolition projects, trash piles left by other building contractors and, of course, materials purchased from the Habitat for Humanity of Montgomery County ReStore.
