• Unemployment Compensation Update from State Rep. Steve Toth

Can employees currently on unemployment come back to work part-time and still receive the $600 Pandemic Unemployment Compensation?

    The short answer is "yes."

The detailed answer involves a quick summary of how benefits are calculated for employees who are working part-time.

    1. The Texas Workforce Commission (TWC) will calculate the weekly benefit amount an individual would be eligible to receive if they were completely unemployed.
    2. TWC calculates 125% of that number.
    3. The employee’s part-time earnings are then subtracted.
    4. The difference equals the amount the employee will now receive in unemployment.
And if they are receiving even $1 of regular unemployment, they will continue to receive the $600 per week in Pandemic Unemployment Compensation.

I hope this clarification helps my fellow business owners understand the options they have as they address the challenge of getting employees back to work. If you have specific questions for the Texas Workforce Commission, my office will gladly assist you in getting an answer: (346) 220-0300.
