• Fire Inspector

    This position shall be responsible for conducting fire plan review and inspections for all new and existing construction, conduct routine inspections of all commercial properties on a regular basis, and enforce and inspect City’s codes and ordinances.

    Salary Range - $55,000 - $65,000

    • Enforce fire code regulations through plan review, on-site inspections, and continual monitoring.
    • Provide commercial and residential individuals with fire safety standards.
    • Assist with visual and hands on inspections of commercial and residential construction projects for compliance with building, plumbing, mechanical, energy conservation, and electrical code compliance; inspect residential and commercial projects for compliance with City zoning ordinances; and review project plans for code and ordinance compliance. Attendance is essential during business and potentially non-business hours. The position entails substantial amount of interaction among the general public thus the ideal candidate shall perform excellent customer service skills in any situation representing the City.
    • Maintain current knowledge of codes and ordinances, conduct research on new or revised codes and ordinances, and research specific code issues or questions.
    • Maintain records of inspections, follow-up inspections, and consultations with contractors. Review inspection reports for compliance where special inspections are required.
    • Inspect miscellaneous construction projects before permits are issued.
    • Follow appropriate safety and security precautions to safeguard all City assets (human, environmental, and financial).
    • Verify proper licensing and registration for contractors is in conformance with state and local regulations.
    • Conduct periodic contractor meetings.
    • Assists in code enforcement duties including property maintenance and public nuisance inspections.
    • The City reserves the right to require an employee to work overtime. As a City employee you are required to provide services or perform duties for the benefit of the general public during emergency situations. These may include services or duties different from those performed in the usual course and scope of your job. During an evacuation, this employee may be required to remain to perform needed services.
    • Perform other duties when assigned
    Job Requirements
    • High school graduate or GED
    • Basic Fire Inspector Certification through Texas Commission on Fire Protection
    • Valid Texas Class C Driver’s license with an acceptable driving record
    • ICC or NFPA Fire Plan Examiner certification
    • ICC or NFPA Fire Inspector certification
    • ICC Residential Building Inspector certification or ability to obtain within 12 months of employment
    • Preferred ICC certifications include: Commercial Building Inspector Certification, Building Plans Examiner, Plumbing Inspector, Electrical Inspector, Energy Conservation (International Energy Conservation Code), and Mechanical Inspector

    Any work related experience resulting in acceptable proficiency levels in the above required knowledge, skills, and abilities may be an acceptable substitute for the specified education and experience requirements.
