The Woodlands Area Chamber to Hold Mock Department of Labor Audit May 21
The Woodlands, TX – The Woodlands Area Chamber of Commerce will hold a seminar conducting a mock Department of Labor (DOL) audit for small business owners with guest speaker Cheryl House of Marsh & McLennan Agency on Tuesday, May 21, from 9-11 a.m. at The Chamber’s Lakeshore Conference Room, located at 9320 Lakeside Blvd., Suite 200, The Woodlands, TX 77381.
Keeping up with compliance regulations is a monumental task. With incessant regulatory changes and potential staffing transitions, something important might be missed and the Department of Labor is looking more closely than ever before for potential employers who are not following the rules. A DOL audit can have a significant impact on an organization, costing thousands of dollars in fines and penalties.
The seminar, “Mock Department of Labor Audit for HR” is designed for small or potential business owners and will offer a high-level overview to help businesses determine if their plans are in compliance with the Department of Labor regulations. By conducting a mock DOL audit, the information will help determine a company’s potential exposure in the event of a real audit and can identify areas of improvement and help put systems into place. Just a few areas in which a mock audit will help uncover violations include life and disability concerns, terminations and extensions of coverage, health care reform requirements, required notes and disclosures and general compliance such as FMLA, COBRA and HIPAA.
House, regional director of compliance services for Marsh & McLennan Agency, specializes in ERISA plan documents and amendments, as well as associated agreements including stop loss contracts, business associate agreements, pharmacy agreements and TPA/Carrier administration agreements. She provides compliance support and education by monitoring federal and state mandates, developing educational seminars and webinars, and managing online HR compliance resources. Additionally, House works with large employers, managing high level claims issues, filing and monitoring their stop-loss reimbursements.
