Promise House’s signature event, Promise to Care: An Unsheltered Experience, formerly known as Sleep Out, invites North Texas’ business and community leaders to raise funds and awareness for Promise House and the homeless, abused and abandoned youth we serve. Participants will spend the night learning more about issues that homeless youth face and what the community can do to help youth in crisis. Promise House provides sleeping bags and cardboard, but unlike those experiencing real homelessness, participants have access to restrooms, on-site security, food and beverages. To kick off the experience, top contributors are invited to a pre-event VIP reception overlooking the Trinity River and Dallas skyline. The main event, open to all participants will be held in the open courtyard of the bridge and feature an entertaining ceremony. Lifetime Movies has partnered with Promise House to help raise awareness of homeless youth by providing an exclusive screening of their new film “I Am Somebody’s Child: The Regina Louise Story.” “I Am Somebody’s Child” is based on author and motivational speaker Regina Louise’s experience navigating the foster care system in her youth, along with Regina Louise herself as the keynote speaker. Additionally, we will have a rare and special performance by Willow Smith. Our Ceremony Emcee’s will be iHeart Radio’s, Anna de Haro and WFAA’s, Cynthia Izaguirre. While there is no way to replicate the hopelessness that 3,500 Dallas ISD students who are homeless or in unstable living situations experience every night, this event seeks to provide a greater understanding of the harsh realities that homeless youth face. We aim to educate the community about youth experiencing homelessness, inspire change and encourage action to end youth homelessness.
