Community Solar Energy in The Woodlands
The Woodlands G.R.E.E.N. is sponsoring a Going Green Sustainability Lecture titled “Solar Energy—Beyond Consumer Rates; What’s Next in Developing Community Energy Projects?” to be held at the offices of the Houston Advanced Research Center (HARC) on Thursday, September 28, at 7:00 p.m. The development of solar energy products and sources continues to advance rapidly as the world turns more and more to “alternative” sources of power. Our lecture in September features Mr. Joey Romano who will cover topics that include an overview of the development of a 12.0 acre, 15,000 panel solar “farm” located in Sealy, Texas, as well as discussion of community solar models (could such a farm be built in our immediate area?), and the general overall impact of solar energy on consumers. Mr. Gavin Dillingham, Director of Clean Energy Policy for HARC, will join Mr. Romano to answer questions and address solar power initiatives in the Woodlands area. Joey Romano is the president of Local Sun, a family-owned independent energy company that generates and supplies locally-produced solar energy for retail electricity consumers in Houston. Prior to founding Local Sun, Joey led the Houston-based Mobile Grid in designing and manufacturing off-grid solar powered generators and was the Director of Development for Harvest Moon, developer of the Mirabeau B at Hyde Park building in the Montrose area of Houston.
